If you haven’t been able to tell, Korean Drama’s are a huge weakness of mine. This particular one fascinated me from beginning to end as it wasn’t your typical boy meets girl story. It gave you a look into different types of mental disorders and a new way to look at those who suffer from it as well as their friends and loved ones who are by their sides during that time.
The show follows two characters; Jang Jae Yul (Jo In Sung) is a murder mystery writer and radio DJ who has obsessive compulsive disorder and Ji Hye Soo ( Gong Hyo Jin ) a psychiatrist with an anxiety disorder. They meet for the first time when Ji Hye Soo stands in for a friend on his talk show where they discuss mental disorders and Jang Jae Yul is a guest brought on to talk about his characters as they all suffer from different types of mental disorders. Jang Jae Yul becomes fascinated with Ji Hye Soo who seems to have no problem speaking her mind but has a mystery about her that he wants to solve. Ji Hye Soo finds Jang Jae Yul to be an arrogant “player” and wants nothing to do with him but when the two finally start to learn more about one another after Jang Jae Yul becomes one of her roommates they realize that they could help one another with healing their respective disorders.
I respected this show so much as it didn’t attempt to paint those who suffer from a mental disorder as “villains” but individuals who are worth helping so they can lead better lives. It also really helped you to understand different types of mental disorders and possible ways it is triggered in some; obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and many more. I really appreciated the wit of the doctors in the show who helped in illustrating why it is important to listen to those who are suffering from pain you cannot physically see.
