I still can’t believe it’s already May. April truly went by in a blur and I’d really like time to slow down a bit please.
In April I really wanted to start picking up reading again but also attempt to pace myself. I get into this really bad habit that I either binge a book or I don’t read at all and it was important to me that I started working towards a healthier balance with reading so I can enjoy my time with the book (and save my eyes from the late night low light reading eye strain.)
So while taking a week off from work just to, as a put it to colleagues, not exist for a bit I decided it was the perfect time to try pacing myself with picking up reading again. Which brings me to the two books I read this month, let’s dive in!
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Rating: ★★★★/5
So, of course, I watched Season Two of Shadow and Bone and I knew I just had to finally read Six of Crows as that group was some of my favorite moments from both seasons. Kaz and Inej are definitely my favorites but it was really great to see this group in a slightly different way than they are portrayed in the show (they are also definitely in their late teens in the book where as the show aged them all up a bit).
One of my favorite things is how the story is being narrated by a few different characters but predominantly Inej as I found her to be the most complex character out of all of the crows. The “will they won’t they” tension between Kaz and Inej could be cut with a knife and I am here for it. Over all I loved the book and would definitely recommend for those who love fantasy novels.
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
Rating: ★★★★/5
This picks up right after the ending of Six of Crows which I actually liked. No crazy time jump and the same first person narration style continued into this book as well. I feel like I can’t really give a full review of this as it would spoil the first book. One thing I will say is after I finished this book all I could think was “I need a third” because I wanted to see where their journey goes.
